Sapana Roka Magar
BBC 100 Women 2020:
Sapana Roka Magar
BBC has released the name of 100 women who did inspiring and
influential works and were highlighted in the year 2020. Among 100 women from different
countries Sapana Roka Magar is a daughter of Nepal .I am trying to present her
story with the informations I had about her.
Sapana was a simple girl born in Myagdi district of Nepal in
a simple family. Being so brilliant in her study she had a respectable space in
her teacher's and friend's heart. She was good at studying. Her parents were so
proud to have a daughter like her. She used to help her parents at home. She
was so kind since her childhood. She never wants to see anyone on trouble. She
used to feel more happy satisfying others than satisfying herself. Although she
was grown on a simple family but she never felt anything lacking. In simple words
her childhood was well spent.
When she was in class nine, she got a new smartphone. That
was the main thing that drastically changed her life. She was in her adolescence
stage. Making new friends, talking to them, spending time on social media are commonly
the hobbies of every adolescent like Sapana had. I think being praised by
someone about the physical appearance and the ability maybe the happiest moment
for many teenage. Sapana loves to connect to people. She made many friends on
social media. She used to talk to them daily. Her friends used to say her she
looks beautiful, she has great skills on doing everything. These comments from
friends used to fascinate her a lot. Talking regularly to them developed her
addiction towards phone. Seeing her being addicted on social media her parents,
teachers tried to make her understand she was doing wrong. But she was so drown
to that addiction that she never listened to others. After passing 10 class I her
village she moved to Butwal for her further study.
During her college studies she get connected to more people
on her social media. Conversation started simply with a guy. They started
getting closer. They felt like they loved each other. She used to talk daily to
her. After sometimes the method of texting by message was replaced by the
calls. Finally, they decided to meet. They met on a hotel and that meeting lead
to their marriage. Although this relationship can't be named marriage but there
may not be any appropriate word to describe the relationship than marriage. She moved to live with that guy. She convinced
her parents about her relationship and they agreed. She stayed in his house for
two months. Then started developing misunderstanding. She felt she was only
attracted by his way of prasing her and his physical appearance but that wasn't
love. She moved to her own parents. During her stay in her own house people in
the society used to judge her badly. Although anyone said anything but her
parents used to love and support her a lot. That time as well she was addicted
to her phone. Again, on social media she got attracted to another guy. She started
liking that guy. She was impressed when that guy said he was ready to accept her
past. But her parents said her to return back to the guy's house to whom she
was married. She went to that guy's house but she didn't find favourable
environment for her in that house. So, she decided to leave that house. She was
confused where to go. She felt herself guilty and didn't want return to her
parent's house. She was disturbed mentally. She used to feel like suiciding.
She started living as a street child. She used to stay in the roads ask people
for food and sleep in public places like temple. There were many nights she
used to sleep hungry. She has even spent many without food only with some
water. After spending about 3 months on the street she went to her village.
people on the village used to say bad about her but her parents always
supported her.
Then she started working with Binaya Jung Basnet, a social
worker. She got connected with a social organization that used to help needy
people in the streets. She started doing final ritual of the dead bodies found
in street. Their organization collects dead bodies in the street and inform
police about them. If none comes to claim the dead bodies after post-mortem she
gives dagbatti(death ritual according to Hinduism) to the dead bodies. In this
critical situation of corona also they never stopped their social service activities.
Within a year she had given dagbatti to more than 100 unclaimed dead bodies. Finally,
her good work even praised by BBC. She
is so happy to be listen in BBC 100 women list. She wants government to help
them and needy street people.
Now the people who used to see her in bad way during her bad
stage of life also praise her a lot which is the happiest thing for her.
From her life we can learn never loose hope during your bad
days of life. We should keep going. Life always gives second chance to everyone.
Spread love❤
